Polish Safe

An acid free wheel cleaner removes road grime, brake dust, and contaminants from aluminum wheels and polished surfaces without using hydrofluoric acid (HF) or other aggressive acids that corrode or permanently dull mirror finishes. For commercial fleets with polished aluminum wheels or stainless steel trailer bodies, using an acid free formula protects the surface and prevents costly re-polishing, which can run $4,000–$10,000 per trailer.

Standard acid-based aluminum brighteners work on raw or unpolished aluminum but will permanently damage polished aluminum by dulling the mirror finish, causing pitting, or stripping protective coatings. Polished aluminum wheels require a specifically formulated acid free aluminum wheel cleaner that removes grime without reacting with the polished surface.

Truck cleaning chemicals safe for polished aluminum are non-abrasive, non-hydrofluoric acid formulas that remove road film and grime through mild cleaning action rather than acid etching. These products should be specifically labeled as polish-safe or acid free for use on mirror-finish surfaces, using the wrong truck cleaning chemical can permanently damage a polished surface in a single wash.

For low-pressure application, dilute 1:10 to 1:20. For high-pressure commercial truck wash use, dilute 1:15 to 1:20. Apply from bottom to top across wheels and trailer surfaces, allow a brief dwell time, then rinse thoroughly from top to bottom. This sequence prevents streaking and ensures full removal of truck cleaning chemicals from polished surfaces.

Regular cleaning with an acid free professional wheel cleaner is recommended to prevent road film, mineral deposits, and brake dust from bonding to polished aluminum wheels. Frequent acid washing or aggressive brightening causes pitting over time, which requires increasingly harsh treatments. A polish-safe formula used consistently maintains appearance and protects the surface investment long-term.
